Tech, geek, and cool stuff we find around the Web
… but still not Android phones
I have to wonder if there’s been studies on who is buying the giant phones. I have a hypothesis but I’ve never seen it tested. Whenever the topic comes up, most people ask the question “Who wants such a giant phone?” and I’d hazard a guess that the answer is women. If it’s going in your purse rather than into a pocket, the larger size isn’t really an inconvenience.
I think it’s also related to declining tablet sales. The term “phablet” has fallen out of style (it got thrown around a lot 5+ years ago when the Note started getting attention) because the size is becoming common rather than extraordinary, but as more companies are pulling out of the tablet market, a larger number of consumers may be looking for large phones as a “split the difference” solution. I also wonder if this is why Apple has all-but-retired the iPad Mini line, while increasing screen size on the iPad Pro.
